George Hecht

Sideline Hero

MELROSE HIGH SCHOOL, Class of 1938

George's lifelong commitment to MHS athletics was an inspiration to all that knew him.

While many remember him as an official scorer for the Boston Celtics or the man who moved the first down chains during MHS football chains for 50 years; the MHS Athletic Hall of Fame remember him as a committed advocate for the athletes from 1896 to 1945.

George made it his mission that their achievements be recognized. Without his tireless efforts towards the end of his life, many great MHS athletes that have been inducted into the MHS Athletic Hall of Fame would have faded from memory.

It is altogether fitting that George Hecht be inducted into MHS Athletic Hall of Fame as a side line hero. Further, that his commitment to MHS and Melrose be remembered and serve as an inspiration to future generations.
